Recently, Granger had the privilege of welcoming a group of high school students involved in tech and trades programs as part of the Capital Area Manufacturing Council’s Manufacturing Day. This annual event is designed to give students a hands-on look at the diverse and exciting career paths available from different manufacturing and skilled trade employers.
From the moment they arrived, students were immersed in the world of Granger. They learned how our teams work together to keep operations running smoothly, prioritize safety, fabricate essential components and engineer innovative solutions that support our mission every day.
We were excited to show students that there is so much more than meets the eye here at Granger, and many were surprised by the range of roles available, as well as the technology used in our daily work!
We kicked things off with an overview of Granger, highlighting the wide range of career opportunities we offer and the numerous benefits available to our associates.
Next, the students heard from our Engineering Department about all the care and planning that goes into constructing our landfills, as well as technology applications in that field. Students were surprised to learn just how much strategy and innovation go into this critical part of our operations.

After absorbing all that information, it was time to get some fresh air for a closer look at our work. We visited Wood Street Landfill, where students got a firsthand view of landfill operations and saw how our team manages waste in a safe, efficient and environmentally responsible way.

From there, we moved to our training area, where students got an up-close look at several types of garbage trucks. It was a great opportunity to explore the technology that powers these essential vehicles and understand how they support our daily operations.

We wrapped up the day on a high note with a visit to our fabrication and mechanic shop. Here, students met the talented teams who work behind the scenes to keep our fleet running safely and efficiently. They saw firsthand the craftsmanship, problem-solving and technical expertise that go into maintaining and repairing our vehicles—skills that are vital to our success and deeply rooted in the trades.

Manufacturing Day gave students a deeper appreciation for the many roles and technologies that make Granger tick. We’re proud to have opened our doors and shared our passion for innovation, sustainability and teamwork. It’s our hope that experiences like this spark curiosity and inspire the next generation to explore careers in manufacturing, engineering and the skilled trades.
